Effects of Elevated Atmospheric CO2 Concentration on Insect Herbivory and Nutrient Fluxes in a Mature Temperate Forest

چکیده
Insect herbivory is one of the most important ecological processes affecting plant–soil feedbacks and overall forest ecosystem health. In this study, we assess how elevated carbon dioxide (eCO2) impacts (i) leaf level insect (ii) stand-level herbivore-mediated transfer (C) nitrogen (N) from canopy to ground in a natural mature oak temperate community central England at Birmingham Institute Forest Research Free Air CO2 Enrichment (BIFoR FACE) site. Recently abscised leaves were collected every two weeks through growing season August December 2017–2019, with identification four dominant species: Quercus robur (pedunculate oak), Acer pseudoplatanus (sycamore), Crataegus monogyna (common hawthorn) Corylus avellana (hazel). The selected scanned visually analyzed quantify area loss folivory monthly. Additionally, C N fluxes tree species Q. was calculated these leaf-level estimates, total foliar production contents. This study finds that BIFoR FACE has not changed significantly across first 3 years eCO2 treatment when assessed all species, although detected significant changes under for individual years. Despite lack any strong response, estimated transferred via substantially higher eCO2, mainly because there ~50% increase eCO2. result cautions against concluding much either presence or absence responses environmental effect, their actual effects are filtered so many (usually unmeasured) factors.

متن کاملimpact of elevated atmospheric co2 concentration on the growth, and yield in two potato cultivars
concentration of co2 in the atmosphere is likely to increase up to 550 µmol mol-1 by the middle of 21st century. such an increase in the atmospheric co2 would affect plant growth, and as well the productivity of crop plants. a field experiment was conducted with two potato cultivars namely kufri surya and kufri chipsona-3 grown inside open top chambers (otcs) at ambient (385±30 µmol mol-1) vs. ...
متن کاملIncreases in atmospheric CO2 have little influence on transpiration of a temperate forest canopy.
Models of forest energy, water and carbon cycles assume decreased stomatal conductance with elevated atmospheric CO2 concentration ([CO2]) based on leaf-scale measurements, a response not directly translatable to canopies. Where canopy-atmosphere are well-coupled, [CO2 ]-induced structural changes, such as increasing leaf-area index (LD), may cause, or compensate for, reduced mean canopy stomat...
متن کاملTree seedling richness, but not neighborhood composition, influences insect herbivory in a temperate deciduous forest community
Insect herbivores can serve as important regulators of plant dynamics, but their impacts in temperate forest understories have received minimal attention at local scales. Here, we test several related hypotheses about the influence of plant neighborhood composition on insect leaf damage in southwestern Pennsylvania, USA. Using data on seedlings and adult trees sampled at 36 sites over an approx...

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...
